For Aartvark May 12 2008

I have been playing at toadgames all weekend. There is no problem as far as I can tell. Others are posting scores and posting to the forum. Have you somehow blocked access to toadgames on your computer?

1 30 2008 Sears repair and my Dyson.. continued

The cleaner does not work as well as when I took it in. At first it had no suction at all.. then I found that they had only put some of the parts back in the proper places.. but had not snapped them in..thus no suction. It took awhile to find both parts that were not in properly.

Now it will pick up somewhat but while messing with it to find the parts that weren't snapped in properly I found there is almost no suction at the bottom of the cleaner.. the wand part does have plenty of suction... why there is very little at the bottom is anyone's guess and I am not about to take it apart myself.

Today I got a call from Sears as follow up from a letter I wrote to their corporate offices.. and they told me to take it in for service again.. so next Saturday will drag it back to Sears...

1 26 2008 The dyson cleaner is home again

Sears managed to get the lint out of the holes on the interior of the housing and most of the grit out of the solid part of the housing. It isn't as good as I had hoped..but it is about the best I can expect, I guess.

3 pm on 2 21 2008 Sears (India) calling..

I have now been informed that the fellow in Guatemala has notified India that I am unhappy with the condition of my vacuum cleaner after "servicing".

I explained, again, that I would have been charged $52.99 for non service, had I not had a service policy. Their view is that since I didn't have to pay anything..and no service was done.. it is all kind of a wash... sigh..

Supposedly, the Service Center in Dallas will take another look at my Dyson and service it properly.

Another email from Sears Holding

It includes the same phone number as their first email.. which only lets you set up service.... sigh...

"Thank you for visiting Sears.com, we appreciate hearing from you.

1 21 2008 Phoning Sears Holding...an exercise in frustration

8:21 a.m. Eastern Time The phone number you provided in the email (1-800-579-2395) was incorrect. I was told that number was for scheduling service ONLY.I was told to call 1-800-927-7836 and choose option 4.. but they chose to connect me directly.
8:28 a.m. Eastern Time The voice mail for 1-800-927-7836 said that they were not open and to call during normal business hours but did not provide the business hours.
8:29 a.m. Eastern Time I called 1-800-927-7836 direct and chose option 1 for English and option 2 to speak to a representative. I was told that this number also only takes orders for customer service calls and was told the call 1-800-549-4505 for Customer Service.
8:31 a.m. Eastern Time I called 1-800-549-4505 and was told that they only take information for customer service calls but they could see if a complaint had been registered in my file. They did find a complaint registered and would add another one. This call was taken in Guatemala. Someone is to call me in 24 hours.. but I have no idea what department will call.
I asked if there was a genuine Customer Service phone number for Sears. I was told that the only number they had was for Sears Headquarters and there is no 1-800 number available. If I wish to talk to Sears Headquarters and Customer Service I would have to pay for the call to 847-286-8371. A google search shows that number is for Sears Public Relations And Communications.
I am now left to wonder who, and what number, EXACTLY, should I call to register my complaint about the service on my vacuum cleaner?

Sear Holding replies via email 1 20 2008

I sent the previous complaint to Sears Holding on their website and received this reply along with a tracking number and phone number.

"Thank you for contacting us regarding your recent service experience. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused, and would be happy to discuss the concern regarding your recent service experience with you.
We value you as a customer and can assure you that your feedback and comments are important to us. We look forward to meeting your needs in the future.
Sincerely,

Sears Invisible/Non existent Service on Dyson Vacuum Cleaner

The above pictures show the Dyson AFTER it was serviced!

I purchased a three year Maintenance agreement when I purchased my Dyson Vacuum cleaner at Sears in January of 2006. Two weeks ago today I took the cleaner into the Sears Service center nearby to have general maintance done for the first time since it was purchased.

There was powder-like dust way up in the inner chamber at the top of the main housing that I could find no way to remove. (picture 1)
The small holes inside the housing had become packed with lint/fibers, that I also could not remove. (picture 2)

The lint filled holes and the packed it powdered dust made the cleaner work in a manner less efficient than when it was purchased.

When I was asked to sign for receipt of my serviced cleaner I asked to check it out first since it was entirely enclosed in plastic.

I was shocked to find the cleaner looked exactly as it had when I put it in for service!

Had I not had a service policy, Sears would have charged me $52.99 to return my cleaner to me in the same shape as it had been two weeks earlier.

I asked to see the Service Manager. Since all work is sent out..he had no idea what was covered in the service agreements. I said that one could not expect the cleaner to work at it's best if the holes were clogged. I also found a store Manager from the main store (the service policies are sold in the main part of the store) and showed him the cleaner. He agreed that one would not expect a serviced cleaner to come back in the condition that mine did.

The cleaner has been sent back to be serviced again.. as I refused to accept it as "fixed".

When one puts a lawn mower in for service..it comes back clean and shiny. I expect the same for my vaccum cleaner.

I grew up in a family who only bought appliances and tools from Sears because they stood behind their products and their maintenance agreements. I have carried on that tradition over the last 40+ years. Depending on what my vacuum cleaner looks like when it is "serviced" again.. I may never buy anything at Sears again!
